When you want your student’s minds to be wild and free, you can give them a poem assignment!
Sometimes, student’s can’t think of what to focus their poem on, so you should have a list of ideas ready in case.
Here you go:
- Life
- Love
- Loss
- Happiness
- Sadness
- Danger
- Dreams
- Adventure
Also, think about if you want their poems to rhyme or not. It would be easier if they don’t rhyme. Some students, when told that they have to make a rhyming poem, might want to make a rap song. That’s an awesome idea!
Here are some sites with French rhyming dictionaries; they make things easier!

These general writing rules need to be respected:
- Every noun needs a pronoun (le chien, not just chien)
- Verbs need to be conjugated depending on the subject (Ex: je mange, nous mangeons)
- Adjectives take the gender of the noun they are describing, so for feminine nouns, they usually have an e added (ex: un manteau bleu, une bouteille bleue, un lapin blanc, une robe blanche)
