French Poems, an Outlet for Student Creativity

Posted on Leave a comment

When you want your student’s minds to be wild and free, you can give them a poem assignment!

Sometimes, student’s can’t think of what to focus their poem on, so you should have a list of ideas ready in case.

Here you go:

  1. Life
  2. Love
  3. Loss
  4. Happiness
  5. Sadness
  6. Danger
  7. Dreams
  8. Adventure

Also, think about if you want their poems to rhyme or not. It would be easier if they don’t rhyme. Some students, when told that they have to make a rhyming poem, might want to make a rap song. That’s an awesome idea!

Here are some sites with French rhyming dictionaries; they make things easier!

  1. https://drime.a3nm.net/
  2. https://reference.yourdictionary.com/dictionaries/french-rhyming-dictionary.html
  3. https://rhymes.woxikon.com/fr

These general writing rules need to be respected:

  1. Every noun needs a pronoun (le chien, not just chien)
  2. Verbs need to be conjugated depending on the subject (Ex: je mange, nous mangeons)
  3. Adjectives take the gender of the noun they are describing, so for feminine nouns, they usually have an e added (ex: un manteau bleu, une bouteille bleue, un lapin blanc, une robe blanche

Here is an example to help you!
