French Quotes, for Students to Show You Their Understanding of the World

Posted on Leave a comment

Students know a lot, and a quotes assignment is an excellent way for them to show you this.

Start off your class by showing your students a few famous French quotes (they can learn a little bit about French culture this way as well)

Here are a few for you:

Then, you can get students to make their own quotes. Sometimes, they’ll have no idea where to start, so you can give them this list of ideas they can choose from

Ideas:

  1. Life is like…
  2. Beauty
  3. Change
  4. Love
  5. Happiness
  6. Sadness
  7. Success
  8. Struggle
  9. Perseverance

These general writing rules need to be respected:

  1. Every noun needs a pronoun (le chien, not just chien)
  2. Verbs need to be conjugated depending on the subject (Ex: je mange, nous mangeons)
  3. Adjectives take the gender of the noun they are describing, so for feminine nouns, they usually have an e added (ex: un manteau bleu, une bouteille bleue, un lapin blanc, une robe blanche

Bonne chance!
